Reaching out to strengthen community.
Getting to know Sunny View Lutheran Communities and Services is as easy as getting to know the three communities we serve: Sunny View Retirement Community, Sunny View West affordable housing, and the greater community that surrounds them both.
Forty-five years ago, Pastor Oliver Ruud and 15 local churches came together to start this independent, not-for-profit social ministry. The needs then were as clear as they are today: to help seniors of their congregations live a full and engaging retirement.
And while we were built on the strength of the Lutheran faith, today we’re strong in all denominations and local churches. Together, we’re providing spirituality, friendship, healthcare and enrichment to Sunny View residents starting the next chapter of their lives.
Our residents and their families find great comfort in knowing there’s a place to worship right here on campus. Pastor Joan Randall, our full-time ordained Lutheran minister and certified chaplain leads the congregation, which also includes Sunny View staff as well.
“Aging is a Spiritual Journey”
That’s the belief that our Center for Spirituality and Aging champions, that spirituality and faith are deeply important to older adults and those who care for them. The Center presents workshops to residents, caregivers, health care professionals, clergy, and families on topics that promote the lives, health and spiritual wellbeing of all older adults.
Sunny View Auxiliary
Our volunteers come from far and wide, and we’re thankful for their generous gift of time to help enhance the lives of our residents by hosting monthly birthday parties, seasonal special events and operating our sundries store and “gently-used” goods store.
Sunny View Foundation
The Sunny View Foundation provides a means for neighbors just like you – residents, family members, friends, congregations and the greater community – to donate your financial resources to help neighbors both inside Sunny View and beyond.
As members of a continuing care retirement community, Sunny View residents are eligible to receive assistance if they outlive their financial assets. That’s a level of security that is seldom enjoyed these days, and it can make all the difference in someone’s life.
Our Resident Assistance Fund is just one of the ways you can give. Let the Foundation assist you in matching your philanthropic desires with the needs of the community. We can even facilitate a charitable gift annuity so you can earn income like an investment.
You can help build our community from the ground up by funding capital improvements like expanding the lobby or remodeling the dining room. Or fund our volunteer coordinator or chaplain, or help an employee realize their dream, like Temesgen’s:
When I arrived in the United States from Ethiopia, I discovered why so many people enjoy this wonderful country – you can achieve anything if you work hard. Thank you for providing the scholarship that will allow me to continue my education in nursing.
When a neighbor reaches out to help another, they fulfill an important need in themselves as well. It’s the gift of compassion, and its goodness flows both ways. Thanks to neighbors like you, Sunny View continues to be a strong, vibrant and successful community.
